one square acre of poplars 5.1
2004
multi-channel sound installation with video
The Banff Centre
A multi channel listening theater was transformed into a model for a possible sonic landscape. For one evening, visitors were invited to explore the sound of one acre of closely planted poplar trees growing up through a bed of crunchy gravel, activated by powerful gusts of wind.
The darkened space was lit from video projections of masses of poplar leaves in motion.
This piece was mixed in 5.1 surround sound at the Banff Centre Luscar Studios. The assistance of recording engineer, Josh Tidsbury is greatly appreciated
